Real, Rap,Raw: Story Tellin'

When I think of hip hop, and the artists that have made a substantial impact in the industry, Outkast (and more specifically Andre 3000) ALWAYS make the list. That in itself was enough to excite me when I stumbled across an Outkast instrumental mixtape. I have fond memories of riding around, doing things that I had no business doing, with Andre and Big Boi providing the soundtrack to my life. Ahh. Memories. :-) However, traveling down memory lane always brings a sad revelation....Hip hop, like the rest of the world, has become trendy and disposable. Once a lyrical battlefield, an art of wits and word play, now reduced to just another machine. For example, MTV published a list this week of the top rappers. These included Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, Nas,  and reigning at #1...Kendrick Lamar.  One of these things is not like the other...Out of an entire list, Nas, ranking #4, was the only one with any real time in the game. I like all of the artists respectively, but a freshman album,no matter how hot, does not qualify you as the best rapper. Poor mistress hip hop has succumbed to the nasty monster that is commercialism. The industry churns out one "next big thing" after another, resulting in a tirade of trendy rappers that are forgotten as soon as our a.d.h.d afflicted world is fed the newest big thing. We swallow it up, follow it up, and never look back. On "Story Tellin" I address the state of hip hop today. The rapper of today.

Real,Rap,Raw: I Go Hard

After a bit of consulting wit the sensai, I've decided ta kick off Real,Rap,Raw wit my cover of Wiz Khalifa's "I Go Hard". This song is kinda a powerhouse for me. In any given session the main complaint is that I'm never loud enough, never "grrr" enough. I'm a soft spoken, squeaky lil lass. That's just what it is. So, this track was a pleasant surprise to both myself, and the few ppl that I always run to for feedback the minute I finish a track. (P, mama...Thank you both.) I'm learning that timing has a lot to do with how my words come out. When I laid this track down, I was pissed beyond pretty much anything resembling reason. I can admit I was emotional. And I left it all wit Wiz on this track...Listening to the playback though, all that anger is forgotten. That's what music does. It heals. I hope you all enjoy the track, and as always, I welcome and await your feedback.

Real, Rap, Raw...

It's been a while since I've been here. My apologies but life decided to pick on my life for a bit. Not to fear though. I always come back. And with me, today, I have brought a purpose. I will be putting my usual content on hold in order to present the world with, well, ME.                     Most people have no idea that I spend my spare time writing songs. Even fewer are aware that I rap. And even fewer have ever heard me rap. It's time to change that.                For the next undetermined span of time I will be utilizing this blog to release a series of songs to the public. I call this my "Real, Rap, Raw" campaign. (Shouts to one Kevin Hart  for inspiring this idea.) My hope is to release each chosen song, along with a blog giving fans an inside look behind each track. I want to connect with listeners and artists alike. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I surely will: -) and thanks for partaking on this journey with me.                                                 -enVee-                                                    PS:  BARS!!
